'Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt   rather than seen.'

Techniques and Processes: 2D Techniques

  • Wax resist: Draw your image with oil pastels or wax crayon. Paint over the drawing with watercolour or coloured inks.

  • Charcoal and ink: Draw your image with charcoal and black ink. Use coloured ink to add a wash of colour.

  • Ink mixed with PVA Glue: Use ink mixed in with PVA glue along with ink to add colour to your drawing.

  • Bleach drawing: Use bleach to draw onto coloured tissue paper by using a brush or stick.

  • Wet into wet: Create a coloured background for you to draw on by wetting the paper with a clean brush and water. Paint with watercolour and let the colours bleed into each other. Once the watercolour is dry, you can draw on top using any media.

  • Combination: Draw on white paper. Use the wet on wet method to add colour to the whole paper. Once the watercolour is dry, use a fineliner over your drawing to add definition.

  • Scraffito: Paint bands of colour in watercolour. Leave to dry and then cover the whole area with oil pastel or wax crayon. Scrape in your drawing by using a sharp implement allowing the watercolour to show through.
